Meet KC Rodriguez

KC is ready to take on this historic step and humbly serve as the first Chumash councilmember in the City of Ventura. She vows to continue every step she takes in a nonpartisan way. Her actions speak volumes in how she represents all the people of District 6.

BORN A FIGHTER

As a preemie, she went against all odds and survived, proving the doctors’ predictions wrong. Since those early days, KC’s ambition, passion, and spirit have been expressed through her fearless and natural leadership.

KC attended Ventura Unified School District (VUSD) public schools, where she began demonstrating her natural leadership and advocating against injustices faced by Native Americans. Because she needed speech classes in kindergarten, she was placed in a SPED classroom. At a young age, KC quickly learned about the stigma people with disabilities often receive, and she instantly became a defender and advocate for her classmates.

Throughout her public school years, her passion for and admiration of her Chumash roots were clearly evident, paving the way for her to receive the rare honor of Ventura County Indian Education Consortium (VCIEC) Student of the Year in 5th, 8th, and 12th grade.

After public school, KC attended D-Q University, an all-Indigenous college and one of the first six tribal colleges and universities in the nation, located in Davis, CA. There, she was taught by legendary Indigenous professors such as activist Mr. Lehman Brightman. She also lived on the Yakama Reservation for six years among traditional families.

Her lifelong commitment to Indigenous people, especially her Chumash ancestors, is an important foundation for serving District 6. KC’s spirit is rooted in progressive change, and nothing has ever broken her conviction in doing the right thing, which is a major reason the community has encouraged her to run for City Council for years.

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE

KC has served in various leadership positions throughout City of Ventura with honor. In October 2025, she helped pave the way for Ventura’s official land acknowledgment, which passed unanimously through the Ventura City Council.

She is also well known for the historic moment when she peacefully stood firm until the Father Serra statue was moved away from City Hall to the San Buenaventura Mission, a respectful location for those who wish to pay homage. She had also worked alongside beloved Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez in changing the Ventura County seal, which also led to changes to the City of Ventura Police badge.

More recently, KC has become a staple in the community by advocating for youth as a proud union member of the California Teachers Association (CTA) and Ventura Education Support Professionals Association (VESPA), as well as an avid volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County.

KC courageously stands to protect her ancestral home. She understands Mother Earth is the one mother we all share. For example, KC was present at the call to save trees at the Vista Del Mar monarch overwintering site, and has worked along the side of many great local environmental groups, such as Food and Water Watch, CFROG, and CAUSE for years in the removal of SoCalGas' gas compressor. She strongly supports Climate Hawks by boldly committing to refuse funds from oil corporations and firmly believes polluters should  pay.

KC is also known for her instrumental role in getting the Care Policy passed in Ventura and Ojai, bravely advocating for women’s rights, migrant communities, and LGBTQ+ communities.

KC’s love for the community fuels her humble service. She genuinely cares for all people and will lead a nonpartisan seat in the most respectful and professional way. When anyone expresses a need, the community knows they can count on KC.

It is time for the citizens and businesses of District 6 to have a committed councilmember who will actively listen to the people and act with transparency on what is best for District 6. KC is someone who will lead with love, respect, and courage. She will help build the strongest and healthiest district in Ventura.

District 6, let’s create a better future together.
